Six people aboard a Qatari military helicopter have died after they crashed in the Gulf country's territorial waters due to a 'technical fault', the Qatari government said. There were a total of seven people in the helicopter. Qatar's Interior Ministry said on Sunday that special operations are underway to find the last missing person. The ministry did not provide any further information about the cause of the accident or the identities of the occupants.
Earlier on Sunday, Qatar's Defense Ministry posted on social media X that the helicopter had suffered a technical fault during a routine duty. Due to this reason it crashed in the maritime area of the country.
Apart from a technical failure, no other information was immediately available about the cause of the accident, nor was there any indication that the accident was the result of any external attack or action. This incident has happened at a time when regional tension has increased considerably. Qatar has faced repeated drone and missile attacks since the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28.
According to Saad al-Kaabi, Qatar's Minister of State for Energy, Iran's unprecedented attacks on Qatar's gas facilities on March 20 will cause significant damage to the Gulf country's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export capacity and billions of dollars in losses. Kaabi is also the CEO of QatarEnergy, a government-owned company. One of its facilities was targeted by Iran.
He said that even in my worst dreams I had never thought that Qatar and this entire region would be the victim of such an attack. Especially from a brotherly Muslim country. That too in the holy month of Ramzan, he will attack us like this.
