The strong relations between India and Iran have not deteriorated even amid the war. The Iranian Embassy in India on Thursday shared pictures of Chabahar Port and called it the golden bridge of Iran-India friendship. This message has come at a time when talks are going on between Tehran and Washington after the ceasefire in the US-Israel war with Iran.
In a post on X, Iran Embassy shared pictures of Chabahar Port and called this port 'Golden Bridge of Iran-India Friendship'. The post highlights the port's role as a symbol of cooperation, even as geopolitical tensions continue to shape regional diplomacy. The outreach comes after the US and Iran agreed to a two-week temporary ceasefire following weeks of fighting, with talks expected to continue under international mediation.
India's role in Chabahar Port is mainly strategic, economic and connectivity based. This is a special part of India's Act East, Connect Central Asia and INSTC (International North-South Transport Corridor) policies. Chabahar acts as a golden gate for India to bypass Pakistan and access Afghanistan, Central Asia (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan etc.), Russia and Europe.

In May 2024, an agreement was signed between India and Iran for 10 years. Under this, India Ports Global Limited (IPGL) got the right to operate, install equipment and develop Shahid Beheshti Terminal. India has now invested 120 million dollars (about Rs 1000 crore) in this port.
The ceasefire, brokered with the participation of Pakistan, aims to reduce tensions, reopen vital shipping routes and create space for comprehensive talks. The ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon have made this fragile. There will be talks regarding ceasefire between Iran and American delegation in Islamabad on Saturday.
By emphasizing on Chabahar before the ceasefire talks, Iran is sending the message that the economic partnership, especially with India, will continue even during the talks with the US. This strategically located port is vital for India's connectivity with Afghanistan and Central Asia, while it bypasses Pakistan, and both countries have repeatedly described it as the foundation of their mutual relations.
