Ian Bell, the Assistant Coach of Delhi Capitals (DC), has commended the significant influence of fast bowler Mitchell Starc on the team. He emphasized that Starc's experience and exceptional skills are invaluable assets to the squad. Bell expressed that while they wished for Starc's presence from the season's outset, injuries had postponed his participation. He also pointed out that Starc's contributions extend beyond his bowling prowess, as he provides essential mentorship to younger players within the team. Bell noted that Starc trains with remarkable intensity, setting a high standard for both bowlers and batsmen during practice sessions. Starc made his debut in the Indian Premier League 2026 against Rajasthan Royals on May 1, after recovering from an injury.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the IPL match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala, Bell remarked, "Having him around has been fantastic; we are well aware of his quality, especially after witnessing his performances during the Ashes. Although we would have preferred him from the start, injuries are part of the game. I believe he will thrive in these conditions. Unfortunately, in recent matches, we haven't provided him with enough runs to make a significant impact with the ball, which is disappointing for us."

Bell also praised KL Rahul for his mindset and leadership skills as a wicketkeeper-batter, noting that Rahul is always striving for improvement, despite being an established player. He highlighted Rahul's game understanding, work ethic, and training approach, calling him a vital presence in the team. Bell stressed the need for greater batting consistency, pointing out that while the team has achieved impressive totals at times, they have also faced severe collapses. He remarked that such inconsistencies are unsustainable at the highest level and emphasized the necessity for Rahul to receive more dependable support from his teammates.

"With KL, like any top player, the pursuit of improvement is constant, regardless of career stage. This mindset is crucial. The best players continuously seek ways to enhance their game. His approach to training and the game has been inspiring, and he has led our batting efforts exceptionally well," Bell stated.

"It would be beneficial to have more consistent performers alongside him. The batting inconsistency has been a challenge; we've had matches where we've scored 260 runs, followed by games where we were bowled out for just 70. Such fluctuations are unacceptable at this level," he concluded.
