IND vs ENG: England lost the ODI match in Edgbaston after 11 years, India won by 6 wickets

Team India is currently on England tour. The start of the tour was not at all good for the Indian team, as it faced a clean sweep in the five-match T20 series. Now the three-match ODI series between the two teams has started. The first match of the series was played on 14 July at Edgbaston ground in Birmingham, where Team India performed brilliantly and defeated England by 6 wickets. This defeat is also big for England because it had to face defeat in an ODI match at Edgbaston after 11 years.

 

At the beginning of this match it seemed that England was completely dominant. The English team made a great start in the first 10 overs but after that the Indian bowlers made a strong comeback and restricted them to just 258 runs. Team India, which came to chase the target, also seemed to be in trouble at one time. Then Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer took over the innings by making an unbeaten 101-run partnership, but after Gill left the field due to injury, India’s batting again faltered. After this, Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar played a sensible partnership and brought Team India back into the contest. Thanks to this important partnership of both, India was finally successful in winning this match.

 

England’s innings

England had a strong start and the team scored 51 runs without losing any wicket in the first 10 overs, but the batting completely faltered between 11 and 20 overs. During this period, the team lost 5 important wickets while adding 42 runs. After this, England took over the innings in the middle overs and added 110 runs after losing only one wicket between 21 and 40 overs. Due to this the team tried to make a comeback but the batting again fell apart in the death overs. From 41 overs to 47.5 overs, 4 wickets fell and only 55 runs were scored. As a result, the entire England team was all out for 258 runs in 47.5 overs.

 

 

For England, Joe Root played the highest unbeaten inning of 76 runs. Apart from him, Liam Dawson handled the team’s faltering innings by scoring 68 runs in 83 balls, while Ben Duckett contributed 43 runs in 45 balls. Axar Patel was the most successful bowler from India and took 4 wickets in his name. Gurnoor Brar and Prasidh Krishna sent 2-2 batsmen to the pavilion, while Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dubey got 1-1 wicket.

India’s innings

India’s start against England was not as expected. The team scored 56 runs in the first 10 overs but also lost 2 important wickets. After this, the batsmen took control of the innings and added 54 runs without losing any wicket between 11 and 20 overs. 2 more wickets fell in overs 21 to 30, although 52 runs were also scored. Then from 31 to 40 overs, the Indian batsmen made a brilliant partnership and added 61 runs. No wicket fell even in the death overs and the team scored 262 runs for 4 wickets in 45.2 overs after scoring 39 runs. India won by 6 wickets with 28 balls remaining.

 

 

Shubman Gill scored the highest 80 runs for India. However, he retired hurt and walked off the field. Apart from them, Akshar Patel played an unbeaten inning of 57 runs and Washington Sundar played an unbeaten inning of 52 runs. Whereas for England, Sam Curran, Josh Tong and Joffra Archer got 1 wicket each. While Shreyas Iyer returned to the pavilion after being run out.
