Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has turned his attention to winning more titles with the club after lifting the Premier League trophy last season.

The Gunners were crowned champions of England last season, bringing their 22-year wait to an end. Even though they ultimately lost on penalties to PSG in the Champions League final, it still stood out as a hugely successful campaign.

“This has to be the start and this has to be the standard,” Arteta told The Arsenal app. “Excellence has to be our standard and this has to drive to attack the future.

“The way we behave daily with more and more determination and ambition because we’ve shown that we’ve got it. Now we have to show that we belong to this level. We want to increase and take this football club to a different dimension.

“My ambition is that daily we nail the standards and the requirements to be better the following day. That is the thing that we have to control. And maintaining that ambition, that discipline, that commitment and that positive energy through 11 months.

“That is the responsibility that we all have. If we all achieve that, we are going to be in a really strong position in May.”

The Gunners will begin their pre-season build-up with a friendly against Girona on Saturday. Arteta has not been seen since joining in the celebrations of their Premier League success at the bus parade.

“Probably the best football experience that I’ve had,” Arteta said, looking back on that occasion. “It puts it probably at the highest level, higher than any other trophy that I’ve won or moment that I’ve had.

“Because it tells a story and it tells the evolution of a club that was in a difficult position at many levels and was lacking a connection between the club, the supporters, the purpose, the identity and what we actually wanted to achieve.

“To see an unbelievable social gathering that was related to just how we all feel about this football club, about the people that run this football club, about the players that we have in this football club and especially about how the supporters feel about the club. A day that I will never forget in my life.

“I think we can have an idea of how big the club is or how many supporters we have. But actually to feel in those cities that energy, that joy and that connection, it was incredible.”
