The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is considered special for worshiping Lord Ganesha and seeking his blessings. But there is also a belief on this day, due to which it is advised to avoid looking at the moon at night. It is said that on this day the Moon made fun of Lord Ganesha, due to which Ganesha got angry and cursed him. Seeing the moon on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi can result in a person being accused of something he did not do.
If by mistake the moon is visible on the night of Ganesh Chaturthi, there is no need to panic. As per religious belief, worship Lord Ganesha, chant his mantra and listen or read the story to Syamantak Mani. It is believed that through this one can pray to be saved from false accusation.
According to legend, once Lord Ganesha ate a lot of food. After this, he was going sitting on his vehicle Mushak i.e. rat. On the way, suddenly the mouse lost its balance and Lord Ganesha fell down. Seeing Ganesh ji falling like this, Chandradev started laughing. It is believed that Moon had made fun of his body and looks. Ganesh ji felt very bad about this and he became angry at Chandradev.
Angered by the behavior of the Moon, Lord Ganesha cursed him that whoever sees the Moon on the Chaturthi night of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha may face false accusation or stigma. For this reason, there is a religious belief of not seeing the moon on the night of Ganesh Chaturthi. This date is also known as Kalank Chaturthi in many places.
If the moon is accidentally visible on the night of Ganesh Chaturthi, there is no need to panic. According to religious beliefs, in such a situation, Lord Ganesha should be worshiped and chanting his mantras is considered auspicious. Apart from this, the method of listening or reading the story of Syamantak Mani has also been mentioned.
