Mauricio Pochettino has said he will speak to Folarin Balogun in the next few days after the striker's deadline-day move to Everton fell through. The United States men's national team head coach wants to offer support after a turbulent transfer window for the 25-year-old.

USMNT boss plans Balogun call

Pochettino has confirmed that he intends to contact Balogun after the striker's failed deadline-day transfer to Everton. The 25-year-old is still a Monaco player after stepping away from a return to the Premier League at the last moment. Although a deal was reportedly agreed by all parties, Everton raised concerns over the forward's medical.

That development led Balogun to rethink his position, and he eventually decided against the transfer and, for now, remained in Ligue 1. Speaking on Monday via video conference from London, Pochettino said he had not yet spoken with the attacker but fully plans to offer his support.

Pochettino offers space and support

Pochettino acknowledged that handling situations like this is not easy for an international manager, but stressed that he remains firmly behind Balogun. The former Chelsea and Tottenham boss wants to make sure the striker finds a setting in which he can flourish.

"It's difficult because you cannot influence the decision and only you need to support what they are doing with the people making the decisions," Pochettino said.

"Of course, in some special case, [like] Flo, I will call in the next few days because I want to give a little bit of space after all that happened with his situation in Everton.

"I want to know from him what happened, but always offering our support and be with them and that's it. I think he's an important player for us, was an important player in the World Cup and hope that he can find being in Monaco, in another place, his best place to perform in the best way."

Monaco point to medical doubts

Balogun's choice to pull out of the Everton move came from major frustration over the way the Merseyside club dealt with the final phase of talks. Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro explained the striker's thinking shortly after the transfer window shut. According to Scuro, Balogun was uneasy about signing a long-term contract after the medical checks.

"The allegation of Balogun is that, 'I'm not feeling well by the way the club treated me, the way the medical team brought doubts about my future or my health. I'm not comfortable to sign a long contract here the way we finished the transfer window here'," Scuro said.

What's next for Balogun?

Balogun now faces an uncertain situation at Monaco as his immediate transfer options continue to shrink. With the main European windows now closed, his chances of securing a move away from the principality are very limited. Still, a few alternative leagues remain open. The Saudi Pro League window stays open until October 12, offering one possible route out, while clubs in Portugal, Brazil and Mexico also have until mid-September to complete late deals.

If no transfer happens, Balogun will need to fight for his place at Monaco and rediscover his best form to make sure he remains a key figure in Pochettino's USMNT plans.
