On the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh, Indian bowler Akash Deep scored his best Test score of 17 runs with the bat. However, India was bowled out for 376. The Indian batting team was pleased by Akash Deep’s couple of boundaries, but like Rishabh Pant, who got into a fight with Litton Das after a misdirected throw, Akash Deep too suffered a setback.

Hasan Mahmud, the first Bangladeshi pacer to pick up a fifer in India, threw a wayward ball that hit Akash Deep just before he was dismissed. The Indian hitter was struck by the throw, and Akash Deep required medical care.

After the physios left the field, the game was temporarily stopped, and Hasan Mahmud appeared to speak with Akash Deep, perhaps to apologize for the mishandled throw.

The dugout erupted in amusement when Virat Kohli said something that made everybody laugh, leaving Gambhir, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill stunned. The Indian batsman was down, being tendered to by the physios.

After a blistering 86 runs from Ravindra Jadeja and a century from Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian side collapsed for a total of 376 runs shortly thereafter. Before, Rishabh Pant added 39 runs to the cause and Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered a half-century.

At one point, India was 34/3 after losing Rohit, Virat, and Shubman for pennies on the dollar. Jaiswal and Pant then assisted the hosts in getting over their rough beginning.

Bangladesh was knocked back by an early blow from Jasprit Bumrah, who removed Shadnam Islam in the first over itself, as they attempted to chase the towering total. Along with the celebration, Akash Deep claimed two wickets in two balls by dismissing Mominul Haque and Zakir Hasan.

The youthful player surprised Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel by cleanly dismissing Zakir Hasan with an in-swinging delivery and then castled Haque on a first-ball duck.

After nine overs, the first session ended with the Bengal Tigers at 26/3, 350 runs behind India’s total before lunch on Day 2.
