On the fourth day of the India vs. Bangladesh Test match in Kanpur, Virat Kohli just managed to escape being run out. This came after an utterly odd series of circumstances in which Khaled Ahmed failed to take a simple run-out chance, enabling Kohli to continue.

When Kohli got stuck halfway down the pitch in the 18th over, he didn’t make it back to his crease. Ahmed had a close-range opportunity to run him out with a straightforward underarm throw, but he missed the mark.

Everything transpired as a result of a misunderstanding between Rishabh Pant and Kohli, who made the wrong decision. Pant immediately acknowledged his error and apologized to Kohli with a shy grin. As he saw the strange turn of events, skipper Rohit Sharma was left startled in the dugout.

In addition to providing a little respite throughout the game, Kohli’s fortunate escape highlighted the significance of collaboration and communication between hitters on the field.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, struck a brutal half-century to lead India to a commanding 138/2 at teatime in their first innings.

India scored at a rate of more than eight runs per over thanks to a 52-ball 71 from Jaiswal; they now trail the visitors by 95 runs. While Rohit started the innings by hammering two sixes from Khaled Ahmed, one of which landed on the stadium roof, Jaiswal struck three boundaries in the first over to startle pacer Hasan Mahmud. The opposition assault was taken by surprise by the onslaught, but the home crowd’s attendance at the stadium in the previous two days, despite the rain, paid off.

Earlier, Mominul Haque’s steady century helped Bangladesh be bowled out for 233 in their first innings.

After two dismal days, the sun shined brightly in Kanpur, and after eight sessions of loss, the on-field action finally got underway.
