Following the Saint Lucia Kings’ historic victory in the Caribbean Premier League on Sunday, October 6, Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s 10-year-old tweet, in which he questioned if Preity Zinta’s club had won, went viral. Zinta co-owns the CPL squad, which represents the franchise’s first-ever global T20 league victory. Like their Indian counterparts, the team’s performance in the CPL was not great.

Zinta co-owns the Indian Premier League team Punjab Kings, which acquired the CPL’s Saint Lucia Team and renamed it Saint Lucia Kings. Salman’s tweet went viral after their Sunday victory.

The May 28, 2014, tweet from the Bollywood celebrity was sent on the day after the Kings were defeated by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL final by a margin of three wickets.

Salman tweeted, “Kya, Zinta’s team won.”

The Punjab Kings’ only other IPL season ending in the championship game was that one. They haven’t been at their best over the last ten seasons.

What Did The CPL Final Entail?

Faf du Plessis, the captain of the Kings, sent the Guyana Amazon Warriors in to bat first. They managed a pitiful 138/8, with wicketkeeper-batter Shai Hope scoring the most with 22. In the chase, Roston Chase and Aaron Jones contributed 88 match-winning runs for the fifth wicket to help their side win the championship for the first time, after they found themselves at 51/4 in the tenth over.

Punjab Kings’ IPL Misfortunes

It was the Punjab Kings’ worst result in the eight years the league has been held that they placed last in the IPL in both 2015 and 2016. The next year, they made enormous progress, winning seven of their fourteen games to finish a creditable sixth in the 2017 Indian Premier League.

Having won six of their 14 games on all four occasions, Punjab placed sixth among eight teams in 2018, seventh among eight teams in 2019, 2020, and 2021. They also finished sixth in 2022 after winning seven of their fourteen games.

While Punjab ended a pitiful ninth out of ten teams this year, winning five out of fourteen games, they followed their habit of winning six matches in the IPL 2023 to finish eighth among ten teams.
