On Thursday, P.V. Sindhu, a badminton star, did the Bhumi puja for her badminton school here.

Alongside her parents, the Olympic silver medalist took part in the priests’ ceremonies in the Thotaguru region.

The Andhra Pradesh government granted two acres of land for the institution in 2021.

The only Indian to win the world championship in badminton, Sindhu, said that building would soon begin and that he believed the academy would be completed in a year.

The 29-year-old said that her goal with this school is to teach young people and prepare them for elite events.

She said that further information about the training programs, including the number of athletes to be taught, would be released shortly.

Shortly after taking home the gold at her first BWF World Championships in September 2019, Sindhu asked then-Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for permission to establish a badminton school in Visakhapatnam on her property. Jagan Mohan Reddy had assured her that he would investigate her plea.

The Department of Sports and Youth Affairs received two of the three acres of land in Chinagadili, which is part of the Visakhapatnam Rural region, from the Department of Animal Husbandry in 2021. The Department of Revenue gave the remaining one acre to the Department of Medical Health. Later, Sindhu received two acres from the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs to establish a sports school and badminton academy.

Sindhu had expressed her resolve to promote sports in Andhra Pradesh while expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for granting the land.

Since Visakhapatnam does not already have a badminton academy, it was determined to establish one there with the best facilities. In the first phase, we will construct the academy. The plan to establish a sports school is the next stage. I continue to play. would retire from the game and assume training duties at the school,” she had said.
