Maharashtra's biggest infrastructure project, Samriddhi Mahamarg, is completely ready. The finishing work of its last phase is going on, which will be completed in 15 days. The last phase of this 701 km long highway, the 76 km stretch from Igatpuri to Mumbai, has been completed. The country's Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis can inaugurate it soon.
This highway will help in reducing the distance between Mumbai and Nagpur from 16 hours to 8 hours. It is being considered as a game changer for the social and economic development of Maharashtra.
This dream project of Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis is the result of his vision. He assigned special responsibility to Dr. Anil Kumar Baliram Gaikwad, Managing Director of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to complete this project. Dr. Gaikwad is honored with the Best Engineer Award and National Pride Award. He has completed many big projects before time also. Along with this project, they are working on many important projects like Bandra-Versova Sea Link, Thane Creek Bridge and Mumbai-Pune Expressway Missing Link.
Through this project, 10 districts of Maharashtra have got direct connectivity and 14 districts have got indirect connectivity. 18 new smart towns will be developed. There will be a boost to local industries and employment. Besides, transport costs will reduce and economic activities will accelerate.
In the last two years, 1.52 crore vehicles have traveled on Samriddhi Highway, earning Rs 1100 crore as toll.
This project is very special for the government of Narendra Modi at the Center and Devendra Fadnavis in the state. From the beginning of the new year, the people of the state will be able to take advantage of this highway.
This project has been named Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Samriddhi Mahamarg. Its construction finishing work is now in its final stage. This 701 km long, six-lane expressway will take Maharashtra's development and connectivity to new heights. The project was started in January 2019, which was targeted to be completed in three years by December 2022. However, it was delayed by about 1.5 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The last phase of Samriddhi Mahamarg from Igatpuri to Bhiwandi is the most challenging. It faced many technical obstacles due to the Sahyadri Ghats and big rivers.
The main attraction of this phase is the approximately 8 km long tunnel, which is built 425 meters below the mountain.
Samriddhi Mahamarg is the first highway in India, which is designed for a speed of 150 km per hour. This highway is made of high quality concrete to last for 100 years.
About 800 structures have been built for uninterrupted movement of wildlife.
Exit toll policy is applicable on this highway. No toll will be charged for entry. Your journey distance will be recorded electronically and you will be charged per km at the time of departure.
