CUTTACK: On Monday in the city’s Manik Ghosh Bazar neighborhood, a 21-year-old young man who was upset that his amorous attempts were being rejected repeatedly is accused of carrying out a fatal assault on a young girl he had fallen in love with.
Following the incident, the accused, Ramesh from Choudhury Bazar, has left the area. After her health worsened, the 17-year-old victim was transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital after being hurried to a private hospital.
According to the police, for the last two years, Ramesh has been in a one-sided relationship with a female from his neighborhood. Following many instances of his stalking and disturbing her, her family filed a police report.
Police had detained Ramesh twice in the previous two years on the basis of the allegation. He was last detained under the POCSO Act and freed on bail a few months ago. On that particular day, Ramesh followed the girl as she left for some nighttime employment.
He further coerced her into accepting his romantic proposal by intercepting her in a remote area of Manik Ghosh Bazar. Ramesh assaulted her with a knife and ran away when she resisted. The victim was stabbed in the face and neck.
According to the police, the girl’s family has not yet filed a formal complaint in this regard. However, in order to find the guilty, we have started a manhunt, a senior police official said.
