Paras Chopra a visionary entrepreneur from Punjab turned his passion for technology into a remarkable success story. Starting with an idea at the age of 23 Paras founded his company Wingify which he later sold for a staggering Rs 1651 crore ($200 million). Paras Chopra Education
Born in Punjab Paras was a bright student with a deep fascination for computers. By the age of 13 while most children played games on computers Paras had already begun learning programming.
Paras went on to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Biotechnology from Delhi College of Engineering. Although his field of study wasn’t directly related to technology his love for computers never went away. During college Paras did well academically earning a gold medal upon graduation in 2008.
Entrepreneurship In College Days
Paras’s entrepreneurial journey began during his school days when he stumbled upon an article titled “How to Start a Startup.” This ignited a desire to create something of his own. While in college he experimented with three to four startup ideas none of which succeeded due to weak business models. However these failures taught him valuable lessons about building sustainable ventures.
After graduation Paras worked as an R&D engineer at Aspiring Minds a job he left after 18 months to pursue his dream. During this period Paras brainstormed potential business ideas and with the help of analytics technology and marketing. This led him to the concept of marketing optimization which formed the foundation of his startup.
Founding Wingify
In 2010 Paras joined forces with Sparsh Gupta a technologist and product strategist to establish Wingify in New Delhi. Together they created Visual Website Optimizer (VWO) a platform designed to help businesses improve user engagement and boost conversion rates.
Wingify quickly gained traction growing to serve over 4000 clients across 90 countries including global giants like Microsoft Lenovo and Walt Disney. Remarkably Wingify was entirely self-funded a rarity in the competitive SaaS industry.
The new millionaire made approximately $142 million from the acquisition. However since he is retaining a minority stake so his total net worth could be higher.
$200 Million Milestone
Paras Chopra’s perseverance and innovation paid off when he sold a majority stake in Wingify to private equity firm Everstone for approximately Rs 1651 crore ($200 million). As the owner of 71% equity in the company Paras saw his personal wealth skyrocket making him one of India’s most successful entrepreneurs.
