Remakes of movies happen and some work some dont. Its common whether you are in Hollywood or Bollywood or from South film industry. If the movie is hit there are chances the film is made in different language. While remaking is acceptable what happens when someone not only takes the story but also copies the title track and songs? That’s not just copying. Its called stealing it and that’s exactly what the Pakistani film industry did with Sridevis movie. Yes we’re talking about the 1989 Yash Raj film Chandni. This film created a sensation in Bollywood and was considered a super hit in its time. A remake of this film was later made in Pakistan but rather than being a proper remake it turned out to be more of a copy-paste. Sridevi played the lead role alongside Rishi Kapoor in Yash Rajs film Chandni with Vinod Khanna also playing a significant role. The film was a major hit and just two years later in 1991 a Pakistani film titled Nadra was released. All about the movie Nadra: In Chandni Sridevis character was named Chandni while in the Pakistani film the lead heroines name was Nadra. Interestingly the real name of the actress in the Pakistani film was also Nadra. The storyline of Nadra was almost identical to Chandni with even the characters closely resembling those in the original film. The surprising part came when the title track of Chandni was also copied. Along with the storyline the music director in Pakistan also stole the music from the film. Even the dance style was identical. In fact when we look at it as a whole it’s clear that in the 80s and 90s the film industry in Pakistan had become so lacking in originality that it resorted to copying. Chandni was such a remarkable musical film of its time and it played a significant role in making Sridevis career even more illustrious.
