India took on Pakistan in the Champions Trophy on February 23 in Dubai. This is the sixth encounter in the tournament between the two sides since 2004. But even before a ball was bowled, India entered the record books. However, not for the right reasons.

India set a new unwanted world record in ODI cricket. They will be hoping they do not hold this for too long. It is not one any side wants. Especially the captain of the team. India for the moment have a dubious distinction that they will not want to hold on to for long.

So what is the record? India have lost their last 12 tosses in ODIs. That is a world record for the most consecutive tosses lost in the format. They broke the record held by the Netherlands between 2011 and 2013.

So Team India is the first side in history to lose 12 straight tosses. This was after Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl in an all-important clash for them. They are also the defending champions and hosts of the tournament. Of course, India are playing all their games in UAE as they did not get clearance from the government to play in Pakistan due to security concerns and political tensions.

India started their Champions Trophy campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh on February 20. Pakistan lost the tournament opener to New Zealand on February 19 by 60 runs. Pakistan currently lead 3-2 vs India in five Champions Trophy clashes.

The last time they met in the competition was in the 2017 final which Pakistan won by 180 runs. It is their only Champions Trophy title. India won it in 2013 and were joint winners along with Sri Lanka in 2002 when the final was washed out.
