Legendary actress Sridevi passed away at the age of 54 in Dubai where she had traveled with the Kapoor family to attend the wedding of actor Mohit Marwah a nephew of the Kapoors. The grand wedding celebrations were attended by several Bollywood celebrities including Sonam Kapoor Anil Kapoor Arjun Kapoor Karisma Kapoor Karan Johar and Abhishek Bachchan. Sridevi along with her husband Boney Kapoor and their younger daughter Khushi had flown to Dubai while their elder daughter Janhvi Kapoor remained in India. After the wedding Sridevi decided to extend her stay in Dubai. Meanwhile Boney Kapoor returned to Mumbai but later flew back to Dubai to surprise his wife. Sridevis death According to reports Boney Kapoor arrived at their hotel room and woke Sridevi around 5:30 PM. The couple spent about 15 minutes talking before he invited her to dinner. As she went to the bathroom to get ready Boney waited. When she didn’t come out for a long time he knocked on the door. Getting no response he forced it open and found Sridevi lying unconscious in the bathtub which was full of water. He immediately tried to revive her but failed. Panicked he called a friend for help before informing the police at around 9 PM. Unfortunately Sridevi could not be saved. Her family was in shock as they claimed she had no prior heart conditions. Bringing Sridevis body to India was a long process Authorities in Dubai conducted an autopsy which delayed the process of bringing her body back to Mumbai. Industrialist Anil Ambani offered to arrange a private jet for the transportation but due to various formalities the process took longer than expected. However amidst the delay there was one man who played a crucial role in helping sign out her remains ensuring that Sridevis body could finally return home to India. The man who helped Boney Kapoor in bringing back Sridevi’s body to India 44-year-old Ashraf Thamarasery from Kerala often referred to as Sherry has dedicated his life to helping families repatriate the bodies of their loved ones. Based in the UAE he has assisted in sending back around 5000 bodies to 38 different countries. Regardless of whether the deceased is a wealthy individual or a struggling laborer Ashraf treats every case with the same sense of duty. Speaking to The Associated Press he shared For me everyone is equal. If someone passes away their body goes through the same process - whether in Dubai Sharjah or any other emirate. Rich or poor it doesn’t matter. His selfless work has made him a lifeline for many grieving families ensuring their loved ones can return home for their final rites.
