's new reality gameshow series, filling the gap left by .

Hosted by Peter Serafinowicz, Million Dollar Secret promises to be a 'unique game of prey and predator'.

In this intriguing show, contestants will find themselves in luxurious surroundings, but relaxation won't be on the agenda. Instead, they'll be vying for a staggering $1 million cash prize.

Expect plenty of drama as the money changes hands multiple times, with numerous unexpected twists along the way.

The first batch of episodes will be available to stream from March 26. But what are the rules of the game? What must each contestant do to secure the money? Here's everything you need to know.

What are the rules?

The premise of the game involves 12 strangers moving into a lakeside mansion known as The Stag. Upon arrival, they each select a room key at random, reports .

Each room contains a box. While 11 of these boxes are empty, one holds the coveted $1 million.

The lucky contestant who finds the money must then work to keep their newfound wealth a secret, while the others try to identify the sudden millionaire. This format may feel familiar to viewers who enjoyed watching Faithfuls attempt to unmask Traitors.

Much like its predecessor, contestants will be expected to participate in guest activities. These tasks could offer advantages for both the millionaire and the hunters.

Victorious participants will gain access to the Trophy Room, where they might uncover clues hinting at the millionaire's identity.

But that's not all. In each episode, host and comedian Peter Serafinowicz will assign the millionaire a covert mission to secure their own advantage.

Some of these opportunities may arise during the nightly elimination dinners, where contestants are asked to vote on who they suspect is the money holder.

Regardless of whether their suspicions are correct, the individual with the most votes must immediately exit The Stag.

How does someone win the $1 million

To claim the prize money, contestants simply need to possess the box containing the cash. However, this is easier said than done when everyone is speculating about who has left a significant sum of money unattended in their room.

If the millionaire is correctly identified and voted off, they will exit the game and the money will be transferred to a new player. This format bears a striking resemblance to another show, Fortune Hotel, which aired on ITV and was hosted by Stephen Managan.

One notable difference, however, appears to be that the Netflix series does not feature regular swaps. In the previous show, the money was stored in briefcases and participants had the option to swap their case with others.

This doesn't appear to be a characteristic of Million Dollar Secret. Another divergence is that while Fortune Hotel had pairs collaborating, Million Dollar Secret features individual players.

There might still be some unexpected turns in the series yet to be unveiled. As per the Tudum website, if a Millionaire feels they are attracting too much attention, they have the option to abandon the cash to ensure their survival in the competition for another day.

However, it remains unclear how they would manage to reverse their fortunes and still emerge victorious.

Million Dollar Secret is streaming on Netflix.
