According to Dr. Subhash Giri from the Medicine Department at RML Hospital in Delhi, individuals should aim for a minimum of 2 liters of water daily, even for those with sedentary jobs. For those who engage in regular exercise or are athletes, a higher intake is recommended.


Dr. Subhash further advises that an average adult should consume around 8-10 glasses of water each day. Pregnant and breastfeeding women, however, should increase their intake to 10-12 glasses to ensure both their health and that of their child, as hydration is critical during these stages.


Consequences of Inadequate Water Intake

Failing to drink enough water can lead to dehydration, which poses serious health risks. Insufficient hydration can result in kidney stones, heart issues, and digestive complications like constipation and abdominal pain. The risk of dehydration is particularly heightened in summer, leading to symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Therefore, it is essential to remain vigilant about water consumption, especially when outdoors—carrying a one-liter bottle can help ensure you stay hydrated.
