Ramesh Sippys directed film Sholay which was full of Jai-Veeru jodi Basantis tanga Thakurs hands and Babbars fear is about to complete 50 years. The screenplay of this film which was released in theatres on 15th August 1975 was written by Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar together and is still very much liked. In this movie there was also an item song by Salman Khans stepmother Helen which was named- Mehbooba Mehbooba. This film badly defeated K. Asifs film Mughal-e-Azam which ran in theatres for 3 years and ruled the theatres for five years.

And it sold 25 crore tickets which is much more than the films like RRR and Jawaan that joined the 1000 crore club. This movie had veteran actors like Amitabh Bachchan Dharmendra Sanjeev Kumar Amjad Khan Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan who succeeded in attracting the audience.
Talking about the tickets of Sholay which was running non-stop from 1975 to 1980 at Mumbais Minerva theatre its price was just Rs 1.50 to Rs 2.00. It also went viral last day. The price for the middle row was Rs 2.50 and for the balcony it was Rs 3. Which was very cheap. At the same time the writers of the film Salim-Javed were given Rs 10000 as a signing amount which was a huge amount at that time.
There was a fight for the roles of Thakur and Gabbar Sanjeev Kumar had to play the role of Babbar. For this he had blackened his teeth and even offered to shave his head. Apart from these Dharmendra wanted to play the role of Thakur but Ramesh Sippy cleverly gave him the role of Veeru. It is said that Dilip Kumar was to be chosen for the role of Thakur Jain Denzongpa for the role of Gabbar and Shatrughan Sinha for the role of Jai. But later things changed and this did not happen.
