Once known as the most popular face of Indian soap operas this television actor had a golden period in his career trajectory where even producers would wait for his dates scripts were molded around his personality and not only that he also had the luxury of having his own vanity van - a luxury that was predominantly reserved for the blockbuster Bollywood stars and didnt prevail in the TV industry world. Celebrated for his remarkable acting skills and charming persona this actor soon became a household name himself with some top-rating serials like Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.
This celebrated and suave actor was none other than - Karan Patel. But like they say change is the only constant. Soon tides turned against Karan who was one short of dates today became out of the limelight and jobless — without even a solitary offer for an acting assignment in the past six years. From being the industrys most talked-about name to being ignored during the OTT era his trajectory is reflective of the cold truths and unpredictability of showbiz.
Karan Patel who was famously known as the Salman Khan of TV industry admits in a candid interview that he hasnt worked on television since almost 2021. His last known gigs were Bigg Boss 15: Sankat in Jungle and Khatron Ke Khiladi 11. While being a constant TV face for years there were no offers post that. In 2023 there was a rumor about him coming back to Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii but nothing materialized.
Going down memory lane Karn reveals that during the peak of his career the biggest challenge for him was waking up early. I always slept in late he chuckled. Even if I arrived late Id still play well. If I arrived on time what else would I do? He continued to assert that he was the sole television actor to possess his own vanity van — a reflection of how much he was worth to production houses.
The pressure of TV schedules he states was crushing. We worked like there were 370 days in a year. There was no system no backup. If there was an episode you had to be there no matter what he explained.
He recalled how the speed sometimes resulted in errors. Once in a hurry during a scene a swear word involuntarily escaped. Fortunately the character was Punjabi so no one picked up on it he chuckled.
Karan also talks about the shift in the industry Its like donkeys and horses are all running the same race he declared. He openly confessed that Bigg Boss was never his type of show and even todays OTT platforms strike him as soft porn — far from the kind of work hed like to pursue.
He pointed out how auditions have almost become nonexistent. Now nobody even auditions. Everyone becomes an actor without testing themselves he added.
While discussing experimentation in Indian entertainment Karan opined We dont have the heart to experiment with something new. If something happens in the South only then do we attempt to replicate it.
He even named major production houses. Even Dharma and Yash Raj the erstwhile kings of romance are now producing thrillers for OTT platforms. Theyve forgotten their own genre. Lastly Karan spoke of his displeasure candidly — Good roles or bad ones I havent got anything in 6 years. TV isnt what it used to be. Everything has moved to the web and unfortunately TV has lost its identity.
Karan’s journey is a proof that time can flip anytime and tables can turn in a moment. From being at the peak of fame to facing years of silence his story reminds us that no success is permanent — and no struggle is forever. In the ever-changing world of showbiz it’s not just about rising to the top but about learning how to survive the fall.
