Reliance Industries has decided a 21-day maintenance shutdown at its 660000 barrels-per-day refinery in Jamnagar Gujarat. The closure has already started this week in a crude unit and several secondary units including a diesel hydrotreater according to a report by Economic Times. The affected refinery is part of Reliance’s Jamnagar refining complex with a combined capacity of approximately 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) across two refineries. While one refinery is domestic market-focused the other are for exports. The current maintenance activity is for the domestic-focused facility. The scheduled work includes routine maintenance to ensure high performance and compliance with safety and environmental standards. However Reliance Industries has not yet issued an official statement regarding the shutdown. Mukesh Ambani’s Role In Reliance Mukesh Ambani is the Chairman and MD of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) oversees the operations of the company. Reliance deals in various sectors like petrochemicals refining oil & gas exploration retail telecommunications and digital services. As the largest shareholder Ambani has handled Reliance one of Indias richest businesses. RIL established Jamnagar complex as a global refining hub.
