Banana bread are fantastic for using up bananas that have overripened, perhaps if you've . Plus, it is the perfect go-to when you're in the mood to something delightful and uncomplicated, and it turns out there's a trick to elevate this classic treat.

To do so, no fancy ingredients need to be added, you just need to double up on one item. Recipe developer Coco Morante at Simply Recipes favours adding one more banana to any banana bread recipe to turn it into a "beautiful, bakery-worthy loaf that's sweeter and even more delicious". She noted that this trick is ever so "simple", but the "impact is big".

However, it's important to use an extra banana and not leave one out of the batter and save it for the top, or "you'll end up with a dry loaf".

The additional banana needs to be added just before baking the banana bread in the oven.

Once you have your banana bread batter in a lined tin, slice a peeled banana in half lengthwise, then place the halves right on top of the batter, cut sides facing up.

Place the banana slices near the middle of the batter. Banana slices placed near the sides of the banana bread batter can slide out of place.

The banana fuses into the loaf as it bakes, creating the sort of "masterpiece" that will look fantastic.

While doing this step makes the banana bread look better, it also improves the taste.

Coco explained: "The banana caramelises and its flavour concentrates as it bakes, becoming sweeter.

"It's such a clever way to make a better-tasting, fancy-looking banana bread without a lot of effort."

While the batter for banana bread calls for overripe bananas, the banana you are placing on top can be brown or mushy as it "won't hold its shape".
