UP School Holiday: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken an important preventive step by ordering the closure of schools in several districts due to intense cold wave conditions and persistent dense fog. This decision has been made keeping in mind the safety, health, and well-being of students, especially young children who are most vulnerable to extreme winter weather. A significant drop in temperature has been recorded across eastern Uttar Pradesh, leading to hazardous conditions such as poor visibility, delayed transportation, and increased health risks.
In recent days, districts like Varanasi have witnessed a sharp fall in minimum temperatures along with continuous fog cover during early morning hours. Visibility levels in many areas have dropped drastically, making daily commuting risky. Children traveling to schools in such weather conditions face exposure to cold stress, respiratory issues, and road safety hazards. Considering these factors, the district administration of Varanasi has announced the closure of all schools up to Class 5 with immediate effect.
The closure directive applies uniformly to government schools, private institutions, and aided educational establishments. Authorities have ensured that there is no delay in implementing the order so that students are not exposed to unsafe weather conditions. Education departments at the district level are working in coordination with local administrations to ensure smooth compliance and effective communication with schools and parents.
District officials are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation in collaboration with meteorological agencies. To reduce the risk posed by low temperatures and dense fog, many schools that remain operational have shifted their schedules. Classes are now being conducted between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. This adjustment allows students to travel after fog conditions improve and temperatures become relatively stable. Parents are encouraged to stay in regular touch with school management and follow official notices for updated schedules.
According to meteorological forecasts, Yellow and Orange alerts have been issued for multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh for the next 48 hours. These alerts indicate the likelihood of continued cold wave conditions and dense fog. In several areas, visibility has reportedly dropped below 50 meters, which significantly increases the risk of road accidents and delays. The school closure decisions are being viewed as a proactive safety measure in response to these warnings.
In Sambhal district, authorities have taken stricter action due to extreme weather severity. Reports confirm that schools from nursery to Class 12, across all education boards, will remain closed on December 26 and 27, 2025. This decision reflects the seriousness of the cold wave impact in the region and the administration’s commitment to safeguarding students.
