Actor Manisha Koirala has responded to widespread social media attention around her natural salt-and-pepper hair, saying the change reflects a deeper personal shift and a sense of “freedom.”
The 55-year-old actor recently shared pictures from her Eid celebrations, where she appeared with her natural grey hair, prompting conversations online about ageing and beauty standards. The images quickly gained traction, with many users praising her for embracing a natural look in an industry often associated with youth-centric ideals.
Reacting to the buzz, Manisha said the decision to stop colouring her hair was not sudden but part of a gradual internal change. She described it as “a gentle shift within,” adding that her priorities have evolved over time, with authenticity taking precedence over appearance.
The actor stated that embracing her natural look has brought her a sense of ease and confidence. “It feels like freedom. A quiet confidence. I’m no longer trying to fit into an idea of beauty, I’m simply being myself,” she said, explaining her perspective on ageing and self-image.

Manisha also spoke about how the pressure to maintain a youthful appearance continues to shape perceptions in the entertainment industry. She pointed out that women, in particular, often face scrutiny for both ageing naturally and opting for cosmetic interventions, placing them in a difficult position.
Her decision to go grey, she noted, is a conscious move towards self-acceptance rather than conforming to external expectations. Having experienced personal challenges, including her battle with ovarian cancer in 2012, the actor said her understanding of beauty has changed significantly over the years.

According to Manisha, her current outlook places emphasis on inner qualities such as resilience, peace and kindness. She said that beauty, in her view, is no longer defined by physical appearance alone but by personal growth and life experiences.
The actor added that she hopes her choice encourages a broader acceptance of natural ageing. She believes that beauty should expand with time rather than be restricted by conventional standards.
Manisha Koirala, known for her work in films such as Bombay, Dil Se and Company, has remained an influential figure in Indian cinema. Over the years, she has also been vocal about health, wellness and self-acceptance, often sharing insights from her personal journey.
