Good news has come for India from Hormuz. Ship Disha carrying 62,370 metric tons of LNG reached the port of Gujarat today on Friday. Bharuch Port Authority of Gujarat said that the LNGC Disha ship reached Dahej Port in the morning.
The LNG cargo was loaded at Qatar's Ras Laffan LNG terminal. The tanker carries 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG, which is an important delivery for India's energy supply chain. Disha is being operated under a consortium led by Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and is chartered to Petronet LNG Limited. The successful passage of this ship from Hormuz happened at a time when tension was increasing in this area.
Disha's arrival is expected to increase the availability of LNG and help in the supply of energy for industrial and domestic use. Hormuz is an important route for global energy trade and any disruption in this area impacts the global oil and gas supply chain.
After the agreement between America and Iran, ships continue to leave Hormuz. Maritime data company 'Lloyd's List Intelligence' has given this information. Richard Mead, editor-in-chief of 'Lloyd's List', said that for the first time in almost 110 days, ships owned by major companies are passing through the strait, while they were almost stuck (stopped) since February. This route is very important for the world's oil and natural gas. Its closure created a historic energy crisis.
Government officials say that Hormuz has reopened and the number of ships passing through this route is gradually increasing. It is important to keep in mind that it will take time for functioning to return to normal. According to shipping-tracker companies, about 40–50 ships passed through the western part of the strait between June 16 and June 18.
After the crisis in West Asia started, on an average only 4-5 ships were passing through this strait every day. Under normal circumstances, 80-100 ships pass through this route daily, carrying oil, gas, fertilizer and other goods to markets around the world.
