WhatsApp Update: WhatsApp has started rolling out a new username feature for its millions of users. This feature further strengthens privacy, under which users will now be able to do chatting and calling without sharing their mobile number. Along with this, the company has also given the option to the users to reserve the username of their choice, which can be used later.
If you haven’t reserved your username yet, it can be done in a few easy steps–
First update WhatsApp to the latest version
Go to Settings of the app
Tap on Account section
Here you will see the option of Username
Select a username of your choice and reserve it
If you’ve chosen a username that you no longer want to use, you can change or remove it–
Go to Settings of WhatsApp and open Username section.
Tap on Edit option given there
You can change or delete an existing username
After this the new username can be reserved again
Things to keep in mind while creating a username
It is important to follow some rules while choosing a WhatsApp username. Users cannot choose usernames that are already associated with another account, especially on Instagram. If you want to use your Instagram username only, then you will have to link both the accounts.
If the desired username is not available, it can be created by adding numbers, additional letters or special characters.
This new feature has been brought especially keeping privacy in mind. After its implementation, your mobile number will not be visible to other users in group chats. Only people who already have your contact number saved will be able to see your number. At the same time, users contacting for the first time will not see your number.
