Durga Puja is a significant and widely celebrated festival in West Bengal. Also known as Durgotsava, it is considered one of the most auspicious events of Hindus. The occasion is also marked in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Odisha. Durga Puja begins on the sixth day of Navratri, known as Shashti Tithi, and concludes on Dashami Tithi, marking the 10th day of Navratri. This year, Durga Puja will commence on October 9 (Shashti) and culminate with the immersion of the Durga idol on October 13 (Vijayadashami).
