The air is filled with excitement among lakhs of Central Government employees. After the recent Dearness Allowance hike, all are waiting for the declaration of the 8th Pay Commission. After all, the trend in the past has been one pay commission every decade, so the expectation is justified. Though there is no word from the government so far, there are whispers that the 8th Pay Commission may come in sooner than we expect. Speculation says the Government may likely take in public the constitution of 8th Pay Commission somewhere around the time Union Budget for 2025.
In fact, even union head recently mentioned the similar probability as done to launch 7th Pay commission earlier saying drawing some parallel of those timings since 7th pay commission took around nearly about 18 months duration wherein after finalization was executed and implemented from Jan.2016.
The 8th Pay Commission is primarily supposed to determine the new scales of government employees and pensioners and adjust their respective salaries and pensions. All these determinations will consider inflationary elements, economic growth, and an improvement in the cost of living.
If the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission were to be implemented, salaries for Central Government employees might see a huge jump. Estimates suggest that the minimum salary could go from what it is now, that is Rs 18,000, to around Rs 34,560. This means the hike would be about 92%, which would, no doubt, bring some sighs of relief in many government employees’ camps.
In like manner, the minimum pension to the retiree would also increase to a very good amount and could even be Rs 17,280. This would go a long way in assisting government employees and pensioners cope with the rise in inflationary levels and other economic pressures.
While these are just speculations, the anticipation surrounding the 8th Pay Commission is palpable. The potential for significant salary and pension hikes has instilled a sense of optimism among government employees across the country. As we move closer to the Union Budget 2025, the wait for an official announcement will undoubtedly intensify.
