It has truly been a remarkable week for Dan Burn, with an England call-up and marking the highlights.
The Newcastle defender beginning with Thursday's unexpected call from England's new manager Thomas Tuchel, who was making his selections from an initial 55-man pool. A buzz from his phone at 10pm signalled Tuchel's call, where the German tactician both with his late-night selection reveal.
At an England press conference on Tuesday, Burn jovially recounted, "He just said, first of all, that I was very unprofessional for not being in bed for 10pm!" adding, "So I apologised for that." The surprise didn't stop there, as Tuchel admitted to Burn, "Then he said he'd been ringing everyone who hadn't made the squad - so again I didn't think I was making it - but he said he needed to end the day on a good note and that he wanted me to be in the squad."

his strengths and how they align with his roles both on and off the pitch – something he'd communicated to Tuchel and previously, to Newcastle's Eddie Howe. He stated his belief in his leadership abilities, even amidst the calibre of international colleagues, saying, "I feel like I'm, a leader, on and off the pitch. I feel like I sit in that role, I know it's going to be tough coming in with these international players and I've never done that before. But that's how I feel I can best help the team.", reports .
After his phone call, Dan Burn allowed himself a brief five-minute chat with Eddie Howe on Friday morning to discuss the news before refocusing on Newcastle's ambitions. With the Carabao Cup final looming, the Blyth-born defender was determined to avoid any distractions as the Magpies aimed to create history against Liverpool.
Come Sunday evening, it was a job well done. Yet, Burn couldn't afford to get swept up in the moment, as England responsibilities beckoned the next day. While his teammates celebrated their victory late into the night, the 32 year old had to excuse himself from the festivities to ensure he was rested for his early start at St George's Park.
"It was strange. As soon as I left the stadium my focus switched to this [England duty]," Burn remarked regarding the post-match celebrations on Sunday. "My family and my kids were here so we got the bus back to hotel at about 12 and it was getting a bit rowdy - but I was just ready to go back to sleep.
"There will be time to celebrate. I know the club have put stuff out about there being a parade on the Saturday [29th] when we get back. So that's when I'll celebrate. But at the moment I knew I'd waited a long time for this opportunity and I didn't want to spoil it."
Newcastle are set to celebrate their cup triumph on March 29th, with plans for a parade for the club's fans. Prior to this, Burn is looking forward to potentially making his England debut as Tuchel's squad face off against Albania and Latvia.
